It's been 20 years since the death of Voldemort. Death Eater activity has all but disappeared: many of them were rounded up after the war and are now serving life sentences in Azkaban. Now, the wizarding world can simply enjoy their work and time with their families in peace.
The Headmaster of Hogwarts has announced a year-long series of competitive Games, designed to test students in various areas of study and skill, and, at the years' end, to recognize and reward the best of the best. The competitions are a celebration of the well-established peace and prosperity which has followed the death of Voldemort. They will commemorate the victory of wizards who fought in the Second Wizarding War by celebrating the bright futures of their sons and daughters, and will serve to remind people of the great history and traditions of Hogwarts (a sort of complete rejection of the purpose determined for Hogwarts by the Death Eaters in the war). Some of the games are dangerous, but professors and staff will take care to monitor events so that they won't cause the same damage that the old Triwizard Tournaments used to. The entire school is in a flurry of excitement and anticipation: the events will begin after a grand Christmas celebration. These Games will strengthen loyalties, fuel rivalries, catalyze unexpected friendships, and test the knowledge and mettle of every competitor.
